My first job - ever - was babysitting.
I was a freshman in high-school and a neighbor paid me $12 an hour (in cash) to watch her two kids on Friday nights.
I played Candy Land with them for an hour and then they went to sleep.
I ate everything in the pantry, watched TV, and splashed water on my face when I heard the garage open (because I didn’t want them to know that I had fallen asleep on the couch).
The job was easy, and back then, the money was good.
You don’t need a degree to be good at “sitting”, which is defined as:
A person who takes care of someone or something in the place of a parent, owner, etc.
You just need a decent set of skills, a little credibility / experience, and the desire to want a job that might require you to do very little except sit.
Skills of a great sitter:
-They are responsible
-Great at being patient
-Very aware of their surroundings
-Excellent at communication
-Understand how to problem solve
-Know what to do in an emergency
If you check the boxes on these things - great. A new career might await you.
Wondering what you can sit? Here are just a few odd examples.
Home Sitting
I always thought the concept of paying someone to watch your house when you go away was a bit odd. BUT it’s a well-paying gig (around $37/day) and requires you to watch over a person’s house, water some plants, and make sure there aren’t any robberies.

Pet Sitting
This isn’t so odd but it’s a needed job and perfect for a person who wants to make cash while watching an animal. Sure, watching a cat or dog can feel like hard work but what about watching someone’s pet spider? There are all different types of pets out there and people will pay you $2,000 a month.
