I’ve been spending a lot of time in the park this summer taking my baby on long strolls. Something interesting I’ve seen are these elaborate park picnic birthday parties popping up.
When I was a kid, a park birthday party included table cloths from the dollars store and a few pies from Pizza Hut.
But these parties I’ve seen lately look like they are taking place in Beverly Hills - not the middle of Brooklyn.
I decided to dive in deeper and find different ways that you could get into the park picnic bizz.
Let me know what you think!

Odd Ways to Get Paid to Picnic
Picnic Catering or Event Planning:
If you enjoy organizing and creating unique picnic experiences, you can offer picnic catering or event planning services. Market your services to individuals, couples, or companies looking for customized and memorable picnic setups. This could involve providing gourmet picnic meals, setting up themed picnics, or offering additional services like games and activities.
Some luxury picnic businesses make approximately between $12,000 to $15,000 a month.
Here’s an example of a NYC company that brands themselves as the luxury picnic company.
This is another picnic company that chargers per person.
A cool company that does pop-up picnics and offers two different themes.
Super simple example of a company that’s no frills and just offers picnic set-ups.
If you like party planning and have time for a weekend side hustle - this could be a really profitable and fun option. Picnic parties aren’t going away anytime soon. They are making a major comeback. Find a niche: kids, engagement, birthday, etc. and run with it.
Alternative ideas:
I found an Etsy store that sells everything you need to start your own luxury picnic company. Props to this company for doing this! You could probably find the items for much cheaper but if you want to invest in the bizz and get it off the ground, this isn’t a bad idea.
Picnic Photography: If you have photography skills, consider offering picnic photography services. Many people love capturing special moments during picnics, whether it's a family gathering, a romantic date, or a celebration. Promote your photography services to capture these moments, either as candid shots or through a professional photoshoot during picnics.
If you’re into the idea, here’s how you can get started:
Define Your Niche: Determine the specific market segment you want to target (kids, proposals, brithdays, etc.)
Research Locations and Permits: Identify local locations that are suitable for luxury picnics. Research any permits or permissions required to operate picnics in public spaces or private venues.
Create Unique Picnic Experiences: Differentiate your bizz by offering unique and personalized experiences. Consider providing gourmet food options, custom picnic setups, elegant decor, luxury amenities, and additional services such as live music, professional photography, or private transportation.
Source Quality Supplies: Invest in high-quality picnic supplies, including premium picnic baskets, blankets, tableware, glassware, and accessories.
Build Relationships with Vendors: Establish partnerships with local vendors and suppliers who can provide gourmet food, beverages, floral arrangements, and other luxury items for your picnics. Collaborate with caterers, specialty food stores, florists, and event rental companies to enhance your offerings.
Develop a Strong Brand: Create a visually appealing brand identity that reflects the luxury nature of your business. Design a professional logo, website, and at least one social channels.
Pricing and Packaging: Determine your pricing structure based on the cost of supplies, operational expenses, and desired profit margin. Offer different packages tailored to various client preferences and budgets, including options for group picnics, couple's picnics, and customized experiences.
Marketing and Promotion: Develop a marketing strategy to reach your target audience: social media, local directories, and collaborations with influencers or event planners to generate awareness and attract clients.
